葉 - は leaf, leaves

紅葉 - こうよう、もみじ colourful autumn foliage

葉陰に - はかけに in the shadow of the leaves

葉書 - はがき a postcard

『万葉集』- まんようしゅう Manyōshū, Ten Thousand Leaves - famous collection of early Japanese waka 和歌 poetry, composed during the Nara period 奈良時代 (710-794). It is the oldest poetry anthology, and is considered to be one of the finest.

Japanese proverb 諺:

一葉落ちて天下の秋を知る - いちようおちててんかのあきをしる A robin is a harbinger of spring.

(lit. One leaf falls, and you know that autumn is in the land.)
