守る - まもる to protect

お守り - おまもり a protective good luck charm from either a Shintō shrine 神社, or a Buddhist temple お寺

守り神 - まもりがみ a guardian deity

守護 - しゅご protection, guard; defense against

守衛 - しゅえい a (security) guard

保守的 - ほしゅてき conservative

赤ん坊の守をする - あかんぼうのもりをする to baby sit

P.S. Did you know that the lower part of the character is a radical (i.e. one of the base structural components of Chinese characters), and by itself it means “measurement”?
