P.S. In the past a futon 布団 on a tatami floor was a common way to sleep. Nowadays most Japanese sleep in a regular ベッド, beddo, as it’s more comfortable to get in and out and easier to maintain, allowing for the mattress to be properly ventilated (especially during humid Japanese summers)! You can still experience sleeping in a futon on a tatami in ryokan 旅館, the traditional inns

Do you know the kanji for the tatami mat?
